Make Your Subconscious Mind Work For You

Kerin WebbTake a moment to remember what it tastes like to bite into a lemon peel. Feel the sensation as the sharpness of the lemony flavour sets your teeth on edge just a little bit and the insides of your cheeks tingle to the sensations of the lemon taste. Now, slowly, recall what it's like to look into a candle flame. Notice the after-image that's left in your vision when you look at a candle up close, in the dark. See how even when you avert your gaze and look left and right that a glow remains in your field of vision, while the candle continues to sit elsewhere. And now, quickly, remember the sound of a balloon bursting (BANG!) and of how shocking it can be when it happens unexpectedly (BANG!) even a little frightening (I've seen people jump when it happens). And now slowly remember what it's like to open a packet of strong peppermints (maybe like Trebor mints) and notice how the cool crisp scent of peppermint drifts out of the packet towards you even before you put one in your mouth. Notice how the fragrant aroma of peppermint even remains on your fingers long after you've eaten the peppermint. Amazing isn't it! How did you do that? How did you experience the experience of eating lemon, seeing a candle flame, hearing a balloon burst and smelling peppermints, without moving from where you're sat? The answer: you did so by tapping into the resources of your mind. Your amazing mind. And your mind is much more powerful than you probably fully understand.

As a practicing hypnotherapist I've witnessed the amazing power of the subconscious mind utilised to enable people to make major changes in how they think and how they feel and in the process improve the quality of their lives, time and time again, in remarkable ways. Just yesterday for example I finished working with a client who'd been suffering from panic attacks and anxiety for years, up until our appointments. During her panic attacks in her desperation to escape from places in which she'd felt 'trapped' she would become physically and verbally aggressive. She'd consulted with her doctor for help and he'd prescribed CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy), but this didn't work for her. She then paid for private CBT sessions with another counsellor, but this approach still didn't work for her. So, in desperation, she tried other therapists and other modalities... all to no avail. However, rapidly, when we met and after we directly appealed to her subconscious mind for help to make the required changes using a combined approach of clinical hypnotherapy and NLP (neuro linguistic programming) amazing improvements rapidly occurred for her. Suddenly she could travel on buses, without panicking or becoming violent. Now she could visit shopping malls without feeling trapped and believing that she needed to keep one 'one eye on the exit' in case she needed to leave fast. Indeed, she even looked forward to her up-coming plane trip, rather than dreading it. And overall she felt (and sounded) much happier in herself. There was a new 'brightness' about her. She was clearly calmer. More at ease. Indeed, as she left me yesterday she said kindly: 'Thank you! None of the others were able to help me...'. However, as I often say, the astounding changes that took place were due to Mind Power. She always had the power to do what she'd done. To make the changes she'd made. All that was missing up until we met was the knowledge of how to activate the resources that existed INSIDE HERSELF!

Many people spend a lot of their time acting as their own worst hypnotists. This is a fact! They continually bombard their thoughts and emotions with negative impressions which constantly make them feel bad: 'It's all going to go wrong', 'Everyone will think I'm stupid', 'I'm afraid!', etc... and then they wonder why they feel anxious, silly or fearful. But is it really any wonder? Remember how powerful those impressions of the lemon, or the candle flame, or the sound of the bursting balloon or the aroma of a mint were to you, just a few moments ago. They probably made a noticeable impression upon your senses, to one degree or another, even though none of them 'really' existed at the time. And even though you only thought about them for a few seconds. Consider now then what happens to someone who, instead, bombards themselves with negative thoughts, in the form of images, words and emotions. How quickly their mood will deflate. How quickly they'll feel bad. Why? Because they're using their Mind Power in a negative way ...and (sadly) reaping the results of their negative thinking. The end result can be significant under achievement and a sense of a lack of fulfillment.

So, what's the solution? Well, the good news is that the reverse is also true. Feed your mind more positive thoughts and rather than making yourself feel bad, you can begin to feel good instead. And the more often you do this, the better things become for you. It's that simple!

'Okay', perhaps you reply 'but how can I go about doing this?'. My answer is: work with your SUBCONSCIOUS MIND.

Your subconscious mind could be likened to a computer. If you program it sloppily or (worse) install negative programming it will respond according to the programs that you input on a daily basis. However, if you instead begin to reprogram your subconscious mind by sending it new messages you will notice a difference. Replacing 'What if it goes wrong?' thinking with 'What if it goes well?' thinking, for example will cause your subconscious mind to look at the positive potential in any given situation and in the process you'll find that you approach life more optimistically. Plus, if you spend a few moments each day imagining yourself achieving your goals you'll find that you reprogram the way your subconscious works for you so that it begins to 'lift you up', rather than to 'pull you down', due to its previous bad programming. And, if you repeat a positive 'mantra' to yourself on a regular basis you'll be installing a new Positivity Program that will begin to replace and override the old unwanted Negativity Program that perhaps you unwittingly installed without even being aware of what you were doing at that time? (You can of course create your own, but to help get you started here's a useful mantra of my own to give you an idea of how this works: 'I'm happy, healthy and enthusiastic!'. Say this often to yourself. And if you like you can add some rhythm to it as you repeat it, which will enhance the process, like this: 'I'm happy... healthy... annnddd enthusiastic! I'm happy... healthy... annnddd enthusiastic! I'm happy... healthy... annnddd enthusiastic!') Use your mind like you would use a computer. Install good programming and it will work much better for you. What's really helpful to recall too is that, where your mind is concerned, YOU CAN WRITE YOUR OWN PROGRAMS! which means that once you understand this and begin to do this on a daily basis things change because YOU ARE NOW IN CONTROL!

I've worked with more people than I can consciously remember over the years helping them to overcome addictions, phobias, lack of confidence, low self-esteem and so much more and in the process I've witnessed the amazing changes that can happen when together we've tapped into the power of the subconscious mind and 'installed' good programs. I invite you to begin to do the same - starting today. And then enjoy noticing the changes too.

Best wishes...

Kerin
